The European football governing body, UEFA, has declared that they will impose a €50,000 penalty on AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimović. This decision follows an inquiry that revealed the player had a financial stake in a betting company.
UEFA’s disciplinary panel decided to fine Ibrahimović after concluding he had breached Article 12(2)(b) of their disciplinary rules. This regulation forbids financial investments in gambling firms.
Ibrahimović has also been instructed to sever all ties with the betting company.
UEFA also issued a caution and a €25,000 fine to AC Milan. This action was taken after discovering that the club’s player had a financial link with a betting firm, violating Article 12(2)(b).
UEFA initially announced a disciplinary probe into Ibrahimović in April. While the betting company Ibrahimović was associated with was not formally revealed, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that the player held shares in Bethard through his company Unnamed AB.
Ibrahimović started collaborating with Bethard in March 2018, assuming a development and ambassador role.
This month, esports entertainment group, Better Collective, agreed to purchase Bethard for €22.1 million (£19.1 million/$27 million).
