The South American nation of Argentina is looking to substantially raise its share of revenue from internet gaming starting next year. This measure is viewed by officials as a method to bolster the country’s coffers as it rebounds from the global health crisis. The current levy on digital wagering, a paltry 2%, will be hiked to a more robust 5%. This action is projected to generate considerably more funds for Argentina, as the virtual gaming sector there is sizable, producing close to $2.4 billion each year.

Finance Minister Martín Guzmán stressed that this is a vital move toward a more resilient economy and increased employment. He views this budgetary proposition as a critical component of their plan to steady the economy and foster expansion.

Notably, the majority of the tax proceeds (95%) will be allocated to the individual provinces instead of being retained by the national government. To maintain oversight, authorities will collaborate closely with financial institutions and telecommunications providers to track internet betting operations.

Although some regions like Buenos Aires have already completed their internet gaming regulations, others are still in the process of establishing their structures. This indicates that the online gaming environment in Argentina is poised to undergo some notable transformations in the coming months.
